CC's Mission

Yoga is an ancient tradition that incorporates breath (pranayama) postures (asana), mindfulness and mediation techniques (dharana and dhyana) and is one of the fastest growing fitness modalities in America. While adults are realizing the physical and cognitive benefits of yoga, a growing body of

evidence points to yoga as a life-skill for children, adolescents and teens. 

Research has shown that the benefits of yoga include: 

  • Improved academic performance

  • Reduced anxiety and stress

  • Enhanced stress management

  • Improved focus, comprehension and memory 

  • Improved confidence and self-esteem

  • Enhanced ability to cope with negative life events

  • Enhanced respect for self and others, and

  • Improved physical strength, flexibility and proprioception

The founders of CC find their experience with yoga to be consistent with the research. CC views yoga as a life-skill and a practice valuable to all persons at all stages of life. As yoga continues to increase in popularity, it is expected that more research will document the benefits of yoga in children. A primary goal of CC is to bring these benefits to the children, adolescents and teenagers of our community. We believe that by increasing access to and awareness of yoga, we can offer the children of our community an effective tool to maneuver through life’s difficult situations.
